Our Team

Jess Small - President

Jess has always had cats and always kept an eye out for the street, or “community,” cats that were frequenting her property looking for food. For years she had 2 or three regulars at a time, but in 2020 the cats in need increased dramatically - abandoned pets, sick pregnant females, injured males, thin adolescents - you name it, it showed up. At first she sought help from other rescues but this was an issue happening everywhere and it was difficult getting animals the care they needed in a timely manner. As she and her partner Ian learned and gained experience, founding their own small rescue just made sense.

Ian Small - Vice President

When people meet Jess and Ian, often they make the assumption that Jess is the crazy cat lady and Ian is the indulgent man along for the ride, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Ian is just, if not more, dedicated to animal welfare.

Douglas Sumner - Treasurer

Douglas is actually a dog person, but Full Hearts doesn’t hold that against him. Douglas has experience from a more corporate view from his professional career, but has been happy to step into the role of Treasurer so the team can focus more on the daily needs of the animals in their care.

David McCutcheon - Secretary

David has been a long time supporter of Full Hearts Cat Rescue, donating funds when Jessica and Ian had some of their first emergencies to give cats life-saving veterinary care. When more help was needed on the business side, he was happy to sign up to help organize board meetings and provide additional perspective. He is also proud cat dad to one of Full Hearts’ early alumni, Earl Grey.
