Our Process

  • Care

We focus on cats found outdoors, who may be lost, injured, or in need of basic medical care like spay and neuter surgery.

  • Foster

Friendly cats are fostered in homes, taking time to heal, put on healthy weight, and learn how to live indoors alongside people.

  • Adopt

Once cats are healthy and stable from spending time in their foster homes, the search for matching cats with their adopters begins. Many of our cats go to the Pawsitive Cafe to meet adopters.

Outward - Facing Policies

No-Call No-Shows

We understand that life can be unpredictable and that unexpected circumstances can arise. However, we also value the time and resources of our volunteers and staff, and we strive to provide the best possible experience for both our cats and our adoption applicants. As such, we have a policy regarding missed appointments.

If you schedule an appointment to meet with our team regarding an adoption, and you fail to show up without prior notice, your application will be dropped from consideration. However, we understand that emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can arise, and we will consider exceptions to this policy if we are contacted within 24 hours of the missed appointment with a reasonable explanation.

We take our adoption process seriously and want to ensure that every cat goes to a safe and responsible home.

Withdrawal of Approval

We take the adoption process very seriously and strive to ensure that our cats are placed in safe and loving homes. To this end, we reserve the right to withdraw approval of any applicant at any time during the adoption process, up until the actual pick-up of the cat.

We may withdraw approval for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Incomplete or inaccurate information provided on the adoption application or during the interview process

  • Evidence of neglect, abuse or mistreatment of animals in the applicant's past or present

  • Unsuitable living arrangements or conditions for a cat

  • Failure to follow the adoption process, including not completing required steps or not meeting agreed-upon timelines

If we decide to withdraw approval of an applicant, we will notify them as soon as possible and provide an explanation for our decision. We will also offer guidance and suggestions on how to address any concerns or issues that led to our decision, if applicable.

Please understand that while we will offer guidance and suggestions on how to address concerns or issues for the future, we are all volunteers with limited time and resources. We may not be able to provide detailed explanations or guidance beyond what we have already shared.

Additionally, please note that screening applicants is an organic process. As we learn more about our cats and their needs, we may need to adjust our screening criteria accordingly. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work to ensure the best possible outcomes for our cats and adopters.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Return of Adopted Cat

We want to ensure that every cat we adopt out finds a safe and loving forever home. However, we also understand that circumstances can change, and that an adoption may not always work out as planned. As such, we have a policy regarding returned adoptions.

If you return an adopted cat within two weeks of the adoption date, you will receive a full refund of your adoption fee. However, after two weeks, the adoption fee will be surrendered to the rescue and used for our operations. We will still take back the cat, but we cannot refund the adoption fee.

If down the road, you find yourself in a situation where you can no longer care for your adopted cat, we ask that you contact us first before trying to rehome the cat yourself. This is also outlined in adoption contracts that all adopters are required to sign. We can help provide guidance and support, and we can work together to find a new home for the cat. We may also be able to place the cat back into foster care once space is available.

We take our adoption process seriously and want to ensure that every cat we adopt out is safe and well-cared for. We appreciate your understanding and respect for our policies.
